Health Care Sharing Ministries (HCSMs), The Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Tax Information
Health care sharing ministries do not qualify as health insurance nor meet the requirements to be minimum essential coverage (MEC), but the Affordable Care Act does include an exemption for members of recognized HCSMs. This means, that Health Care Sharing Ministries subscribers are not subject to the tax penalty.
Health Care Sharing Ministry is not a Health Insurance
Health care sharing ministries are non-insurance entities. They are nonprofit and charitable organizations (501(c)(3)) that collect funds from members to help other members who have medical expenses to pay the bills.
